We do many different types of assignments during the course of the year. I grade on a point system, and each type of assignment carries a different point value. At the end of the term I simply find the sum of your points and divide it by the total number of possible points to get your minimum grade. I always reserve the right to give you a higher grade. Your grade will never be lower than the point calculation.

HOMEWORK/CLASSWORK (5 POINTS)

I make no distinction between  homework and classroom assignments. In most cases your homework will be to finish what we started in class. It is due the day it is due. We will be using what you did for homework that night the following day. If you don't have it, we can't use it.

POINT BREAKDOWN

  • 5 POINTS - The assignment was perfectly done! All of the activities were complete, and it was neat! You used colors!

  • 4 POINTS -  A little something was wrong or missing. It was neatly done. You didn't use color.

  • 3 POINTS - There were some serious issues here. Only half of the assignment was done and/or it was not neatly done.

  • 2 POINTS - Less than half of the assignment was completed, and/or most of the answers were wrong.

  • 1 POINT - You showed a great deal of courage bringing this thing in.

  • 0 POINTS - "What assignment? You never told us that was due today."

THE ASSIGNMENTS ARE DUE ON THE DAY THEY ARE DUE. THE ONLY EXCUSE FOR NOT HAVING THE ASSIGNMENT IS THAT YOU WEREN'T THERE.

LAB REPORTS (20 POINTS)

Lab reports are what we do. It is the most important part of the curriculum. On average, we do one lab per week. This can greatly vary depending on the topic, but that's what we try to do. A lab consists of many parts: Problem, Hypothesis, Independent and Dependent Variables, Control, Procedure, Results, and Conclusion. Each of these sections carries a value, usually 4 points. For a detailed rubric on how I grade lab reports, go here.  By adding your total number of points  and dividing it by the total number of possible points, you get your grade.

LAB REPORTS ARE DUE ON THE DAY THEY ARE DUE!

I WILL TAKE WHATEVER YOU HAVE WITH YOU ON THAT DAY AS THE FINAL PRODUCT.

TESTS (50 POINTS)

Tests occur at the end of each major unit. There will not  be a test every Friday, or Tuesday, etc. They will happen when they happen. You will receive a study guide at least a week in advance for all tests.

OTHER (? POINTS)

This includes such things as projects and quizzes.  They happen, they count. But the point value will vary.
