We completed our first set of measurements yesterday (Thursday). The forecast called for steady rain for Friday through the weekend so we did it Thursday. (The forecast was accurate) I have attached a photo of our rough measurements. I took the photos and used Scion software which was surprisingly close to what the students measured. Students used protractors to approximate the measurements, but we will be working on a system for more consistent measurements next month. The temperature was about 43 degrees and coincidently 43 degrees was the measurement of the sun's angle!

Last week our weather set records. It was 45 degrees when we took these pictures! However it will change dramatically this week...possible big snow storm is forecast.

7:48 a.m. 4:34 p.m. 8h 46 m 20   The forecast for tomorrow is for only a little sun so we measured the angle today. Our measurement is 20 degrees. School dismisses early tomorrow and along with the forecast I doubt I will get a reading ...have a great holiday!!

I have included  photos of our measuring techniques. We completed our measurements on Friday during a chilly 7 degree lunch period. The weather has been unseasonably warm (with the exception of a few cold days). Luckily the clouds that have been pretty constant cleared on Friday so we could do the measurements.

6:53 a.m. 5:59 p.m. 11h 06m 34   My apologies for not getting this to you sooner! Our February reading for Norman County East is 34 degrees. Thankfully the sun is "coming back" however, tonight we are under a blizzard warning. First one this year. Stay warm, spring is coming...eventually.

March

I wish we could have completed the year with the last observation. The weather for the past week has been dreary and rainy and tonight we are due for another winter storm (5-9 inches). Oh well, the farmers are smiling because the drought is almost officially over now.  I hope you do this activity again next year, I am sure we will want to participate again.
