Samples 5 & 27 - Cape May, New Jersey

Cape May Light

From what I understand,  the Cape May Point sand is actually  many bits of  quartz from the Appalachian mountains that have over time traveled down the Delaware River, after its formation by glaciers.   People call the clear shiney pieces Cape may Diamonds :) I always see kids searching the beach for them and saving them.  There is a children's book titled  something like  The Legend of the Cape May Diamonds. - Sue Iannacci

Essay

Sand sample number 5A is basically light in color. The angularity of the individual particles is subangular. The entire sample is poorly sorted. The most outstanding physical characteristic of the sand is that it has so many different sizes.
